The span of two floats is probably wider than the legal road
width in most states.

| Airplanes do occasionally get moved around not under their
own power, for a
| variety of reasons. Avoiding IMC is an incredibly rare
reason for that
| (you'd have to *really* need the airplane to be moved, and
have no hope of
| VMC for weeks for some reason), and I doubt that's what
was going on with
| the airplane you saw.
|
| More often, it's a matter of maintenance or recovering an
airplane from an
| accident, that sort of thing. You don't say what
orientation the airplane
| you saw was relative to the truck it was on, but given
that only one float
| was attached, it sounds a lot like a salvage operation to
me. Probably
| broke the other float off during a bad landing or takeoff.
The wings may or
| may not have been damaged in the accident, but removing
them before
| transport would be typical in any case.
|
| There are smaller airplanes designed to be trailered, so
you don't have to
| pay for a hangar or in the case of a floatplane can put
them down a boat
| ramp, but a) you wouldn't normally see them getting moved
with a semi, and
| b) they would be transported with both floats attached
(when so-equipped).

That's the silliest thing I've seen in awhile. If you'd ever seen a true
"wide load" on the highway, you'd know better than to write something like
that.

Why not just disagree and leave it at that? Are personal attacks
really necessary?

Why do you care? You're refractory to personal insults, remember?

Bye Bye Anthony. I won't be back at my PC this year, and won't see your
posts after midnight. I've turned you into a pumpkin.

I'd like to wish everyone else a troll-free new year.

Because others are not. Additionally, it wastes time and bandwidth,
and it reflects poorly on the person doing it.

I don't understand this.
